Overview

A digitally crafted outfit consisting of a voluminous sleeve crop top and a pleated high-waisted skirt. This project explores garment architecture through 3D simulation and visualization using Marvelous Designer and Blender. The result is a bold, minimal silhouette designed for contemporary expression in both digital and physical realms.

Concept & Intent

  • Design Language: Soft power dressing—mixing elegance with edge.

  • Silhouette: Structured cropped top with exaggerated sleeves paired with a flowing, pleated skirt.

  • Mood Reference: Clean minimalism meets sculptural femininity.

Tools & Workflow

  • Marvelous Designer: Used for pattern creation, draping simulation, and fabric physics.

  • Blender: Applied for material tweaking, lighting, and high-resolution rendering.

  • Workflow Goal: Digital-first design exploration with real-time iteration and zero waste prototyping.

Construction Details

Top:

  • Cropped, high-neck, and cinched at the waist.

  • Balloon sleeves with subtle taper at the wrist.

  • Clean seams and hidden closures for a sleek finish.

Skirt:

  • High-rise with deep pleating for fullness and movement.

  • Length designed for a balanced vertical silhouette.

  • Slight gather at the waistband for volume control.

Fabric & Texture

Top: Simulated with a medium-weight matte knit, offering slight structure and softness.

  • Skirt: Lightweight woven textile with smooth drape and deep folds.

  • Digital materials selected to mimic natural light interaction for realism in renders.

Rendering & Presentation

Scene built with soft backlighting to highlight garment contour and texture.

  • Centered silhouette on gradient background to maintain focus on form and proportion.

  • Minimalist presentation for clean visual communication.

Reflections

This project deepened my understanding of digital garment volume, proportion control, and visual storytelling. It reinforced the effectiveness of simulation tools in accelerating ideation and preparing for virtual fashion pipelines. Future iterations may explore garment interactivity or AR try-on capability.
