Background

Napa Valley is a group project for one of my graphic design classes in Cal State Long Beach. This was the first big project I did where I got to work with other students.

Problem

"Napa Valley Festival doesn't appeal to a younger audience, the branding seems too mature and could use a redesign to create a more fun and engaging experience."

Research

After researching various thematic festivals focused on music, I found that a majority appealed to an younger audience. which incorporated fun illustrations and vibrant colors to stand out over other competitors.

In order to boost appeal, I did some research on other competitors in the same field as Napa Valley Festival. The majority of them had their unique illustrations to communicate the design system as a whole. This caught my attention, due to the fact we had so many colors and shapes to work with, we needed to ensure that it fit with the overall aesthetic.

Napa Valley Festival was a project I did alongside my other two classmates. We discussed a lot of potential ideas but took an interest in implementing fun characters throughout our branding identity to relate to the message of the festival we wanted to portray.

Napa Valley incorporates various ways of engaging a wider audience. The bold and bright colors, as well as the loud and engaging shapes of our characters, made an impact on boosting appeal.

Reflections

Reflections

Going into this project, there was a bit of problems going on throughout the group. We struggled with a set direction, and there was a lot of ideas being put into the picture that conflicted with one another.

With this project I was able to understand more with working with other group members and find some common ground to work with. The presentation was an overall success due to this because we gave one another constructive feedback and were proud of our final product.

Lastly, I believe this experience was worth going through. I learned so much, and got the chance to work with other designers like myself to create an amazing project!
